When you look at me, I doubt a hard hat and safety glasses comes to mind. Don’t worry, I don’t blame you. This hard hat is more of an honorary awarding rather than something I really needed. It’s from my first ever real job. Like the kind you get paid for. I worked at Matts Underground from the time I was 14 until just last year when I was 20. A family friends owns and runs it and my grandma is the office manager so I felt right at home and made friends with most of the guys who work there.

Since I was around so often, and for so long, I was given this red hard hat as a memento. I would wear when running packages or messages out to our guys who worked in the shop. Otherwise, it’s mostly a symbol of my place there.
